Petitions to End greyhound racing

End Greyhound Racing

In May 2021 we presented over 11,500 handwritten signatures on our petition to end greyhound racing in WA. This was a huge achievement considering that these signatures were collected during the pandemic. Unfortunately the government advised us that this figure was not representative of the WA population.

In January 2022 the West Australian Government made e-petitions available for the first time, so we took this opportunity to reach more of the community to sign their name to end greyhound racing. In September 2022 we tabled over 18,500 signatures, which the Standing Committee, with very little factual evidence, once again decided not to take the inquiry further.

In 2024, prior to the State election in 2025, we go again and raise further awareness of the cruelty of greyhound racing in WA.

The Snoot Is Free!

After an almost 5-year-long Free the Snoot campaign, we can now celebrate companion greyhounds being allowed to be unmuzzled in public in Western Australia.

In February 2020, the Dog Amendment (Stop Puppy Farming) Bill 2020, which includes the removal of the requirement for pet greyhounds to be muzzled in public was introduced to WA Parliament.

Free The Hounds acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to elders both past and present.

We are committed to building an inclusive culture that celebrates the diversity represented in our community. We welcome all people regardless of age, gender identity, ethnicity, ability, sexuality, faith, religion, and all other identities represented in our community.
