THE Estimates Committee Chaired by the Hon. Peter Collier MLC today held a hearing to better understand the workings of the sport of greyhound racing here in Western Australia.
While it is unfortunate no independent groups were also called upon to give advice, perhaps this is a step forward in the current Labor Government and the West Australian community as a whole understanding exactly what role our tax dollars play in this outdated sport.
A total of 26 greyhounds have lost their lives on WA tracks since 1 July 2023 to 8 May 2024 compared to nine in the full period from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.
Free The Hounds acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to elders both past and present.
