Calls to speed up revamp of Cannington, Mandurah greyhound tracks amid spike in injuries

A greyhound advocacy group is calling for upgrades of Cannington and Mandurah racetracks to be expedited, saying injury rates have jumped by 30 per cent compared to the same period in previous years.

Free the Hounds’ president Melissa Harrison said 10 racing greyhounds had broken legs at Cannington racetrack in the space of eight weeks over December and January.

“We believe higher temperatures are causing the track to dry up that much further,” she told Christine Layton on ABC Radio Perth’s Afternoons program.

Ms Harrison said there were also problems at the Mandurah track.
